rest. work. rest.
Rhythms of Grace
matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life.
I'll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

beat #16 - jasmine (Saturday, October 20, 2012 / 11:48 AM)

in a piece of music, the most haunting moment is the big pause between notes, at the height of a turn in the story, or a shift in emotion.

it is the perfectly executed stop and start that people remember, because in the light of noise, a sudden expanse of quiet is unforgettable.

so it is with the rhythm of grace in my life.

rest is a breath of silence some days, when my rhythm is at a jog,
rest can be a pant of air on other days, when i am at a full out sprint.

but today rest for me is a quiet river, and on it i sit in a little boat,
floating down the middle of a quiet that i did not create, but find myself in.

today rest is a long, extended silence come back to find a friend,
and her arms extend to wrap around my heart in a warm and gentle communion.

today's beat is the absence of a beat, between beats.

back to the flat line, between the spikes of a heartbeat.
back to the pause, between the exhale of a breath.
back to the look, between the words to be spoken.

here i find the greatest rest.
and it is so beautiful i find myself in tears,

salty tears laced with a bitterness,
mourning for those that have been looking

and cannot find.

it is quiet here.
it can be lonely here.

but here i find myself most at home.
and here i find the voice of God, welcoming me into his presence.
