beat #29 - jasmine [proverbs, day 2] (Wednesday, May 8, 2013 / 9:05 PM)
"if - then"
proverbs 2 seems to insit on creating a cause-effect relationship.
but the only promised "the" in the first five verses is understanding fear of the Lord and finding knowledge of God.
In that sense, our only promise is God.
v 6-8 seems to affirm this.
v 9-19 are too abstracted, painted in general terms that would probably apply to a lot of different circumstances.
It also ventures into metaphorical concepts, once that again could easily be lifted on to a variety of circumstances.
maybe the reach of wisdom is sufficient though, if wisdom was to be re-imagined not as a woman, but the robe of God, it would become clearer.
A wisdom that covers all, that looks different in odds and angles.
v 20-22 is a huge change in images again and this time there is talk of land and being able to live in it.
Isn't it interesting that the struggle for the Israelites in faith was also deeply tied to their struggle for land - metonymy for belonging, security and comfort.
wisdom -> understanding fear of the Lord -> finding knowledge of God -> upright and blameless - will live and remain in the land.
perhaps it would help for me to think more about God as promised land.
good land for me.
And it will be wisdom that keeps me in the presence of my Father.
