rest. work. rest.
Rhythms of Grace
matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life.
I'll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

Proverbs 7

At the last section of this tri-chapter coverage on adultery, the speaker moves into anecdotal storytelling as a means of persuasion.

He talks about an actual man, being swayed by an adulteress on a street, even choosing to give her a voice and record her persuasive methods.

I guess the first-person point of view is helpful in allowing the listener to once again interact with the piece of wisdom to be learnt and understood in a different way.

By giving the adulteress a personality profile painted with malicious intent, the woman in question becomes less desirable also, despite her physical beauty.
It is interesting to treat these characters in this way, and I can see its point and perhaps some of its effect, but there is something I dislike about this particular chapter.

Maybe it is the fact that the woman is explicitly identified almost as an embodiment of the act of adultery, even though two people are clearly involved.

Following two chapters that are closely tied to the act of discipline, the wayward woman seems to be out to break that practice of discipline.

What about the woman who is practicing discipline and where is her representation?

Perhaps I am picking at trifles, gender roles are not necessarily defined by the use of this binary of a power play. But I definitely wish the man was given much more responsibility as a participant as well.
