rest. work. rest.
Rhythms of Grace
matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life.
I'll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

Proverbs 9

"Let all who are simple come in here!"

Interestingly enough, this statement is repeated twice in this chapter, said once in v. 4 by the Wisdom, and then said in v. 16 by Folly.

How is it that Wisdom and Folly say the exact same thing?

And since they say the same thing, how am I supposed to know who is saying what??

I guess it really is just a matter of stopping to listen a bit longer, to pausing before hastening to something we don't quite yet understand.
For Wisdom, following her call, continues by saying, "Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will live walk in the way of understanding…"
Folly on the other hand, says, "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!"

So Wisdom and Folly at first impression are not that different, and it is only if one pauses to consider the invitation, that they reveal who they actually are.

The pause is a lesson that I experience deeply, as it is the tendency to rush, to go, without further deliberation that is the source of much grief. Whether it be decisions to make, words to speak, or actions to execute, the extra pause is what leads one toward wisdom and away from folly.

It is in the little pause that we hear the voice of God, speaking the words of wisdom we need to hear so badly, that push us in the direction of his house, and usher us into his presence, at his table.
