beat #38 - jasmine [proverbs, day 11] (Tuesday, May 14, 2013 / 9:31 AM)
This collection of Proverbs is more unified than in the previous chapter, with a repeated emphasis on "righteous", "upright" and "righteousness."
There are both descriptions of what righteousness does, and what will be done to righteousness.
v. 31 says "If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!"
I wonder if I would agree completely, since I live in an age that harbors a deep mistrust of humanity.
The righteous seem much more likely to get the short end of the deal. And the ungodly everywhere prosper. Our structures and systems benefit the small amount of those in power, channeling the majority of wealth into the hands of those who need it least.
But in the light of this, I remember that righteousness does and is done to.
The righteous do not only receive, they also give. This means there is dynamic. There is potential energy. The righteous can change things.
Do i change things?
Am i even righteous?
Can i decipher by what i do and what is being done to me?
yes and no.
It can be incredibly difficult to see, but, if joy is my prospect, then i am paid daily.
Help my righteousness bear fruit that comes from the tree of life.
