rest. work. rest.
Rhythms of Grace
matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life.
I'll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

beat #48 - jasmine [proverbs, day 21] (Thursday, May 23, 2013 / 9:15 AM)

v. 29-31
"A wicked man puts up a bold front, but an upright man gives thought to his ways. There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord."

What is the difference between a "bold front" and giving thought to your ways?
I guess the bold front is "put up" to hide weakness within, and employing battle imagery, is there merely to scare with numbers, with fake majesty and glory - a presentation to win the battle in hopes of not having to fight it.

I think often times my personality naturally turns to putting up a front, defense mechanisms kick in almost instantly when I feel like we are about to go to war.

Even when I feel like the person I am fighting is God.

These three verses are such a good reminder for me, that God's sovereignty above all else is something I accept as part of my faith.
That is why dying becomes part of my daily living.

If I am fighting God, I am destined to lose.
I shall give thought to my ways instead of putting up a bold front.
I shall consider my heart instead of justifying my actions.
I shall follow in the footsteps of my God, for I know where victory lies.
