beat #51 - jasmine [proverbs, day 24] (Saturday, May 25, 2013 / 12:58 PM)
v. 26
"An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips."
This particularly proverb stood out to me today because for one, I value honesty immensely.
As a insecure person growing up, I remember fabricating stories and lies to cover up for what I believe were parts of myself that weren't good or interesting enough.
As an older person now, I have made it very much a part of my daily living to be as honest as possible, whether it be facing my feelings about something, or being frank and direct with the people around me.
Another aspect of the proverb that I love however, is its sensuality.
A kiss on the lips is intimate.
Honesty breeds intimacy, and when we choose to come out from our fabricated lives, and defense mechanisms we enter into deep relationship with one another.
The spiritual-sensual experience of living is bound up together in one holistic sentence because they cannot be separate, too often now we focus on what the Bible means figuratively, or metaphorically but forget that the Bible is also incredibly invested in our current, day-to-day physicality.
Next time, perhaps my honest answer will be a kiss on the lips.
